Have you ever asked yourself, “What will happen to the wildlife habitat on my property after I’m gone?” If so, Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever have many permanent habitat protection tools available for you. It’s just a matter of finding the one that best suits your needs.

By exploring his options, Brad Bradley found that donating a conservation easement to Pheasants Forever made the most sense for his situation. “When I was growing up in eastern Kansas, quail were plentiful. Now, quail numbers are down 90 percent and conservation efforts are needed more than ever,” explains Bradley.

“I want to protect my land as a legacy for upland wildlife, while also preserving its agricultural heritage,” he says. “My conservation easement partnership with Pheasants Forever allowed me to accomplish these goals on my 2,035-acre properties in Kansas and Missouri. For someone like me, who is interested in retaining ownership of land for my heirs, while ensuring the habitat is protected forever, conservation easements are an effective tool.”

At its simplest, a conservation easement is a voluntary legal agreement between a landowner and a qualified organization, like Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, that permanently limits certain uses of the land in order to protect its conservation value. Conservation easements are one of the many tools available for donors looking to leave a legacy.

In addition to conservation easements, many individuals and families choose to support our permanent habitat protection strategies through a gift of land, stock, or other assets that often create immediate conservation benefits, as well as tax benefits to the donor.
